Veterinary Services
Veterinary care is a constantly changing field. New techniques and equipment are being developed regularly, and here at Elm Point Animal Hospital we recognize that staying up to date on today’s veterinary medicine is essential in providing your pet with quality care. Below is a summary of the various services we can offer.
Veterinary Laser Surgery
Our CO2 Laser shortens surgery and anesthesia time as well as reduces bleeding and postsurgical pain. Our surgery suite contains all new anesthesia machines for 2 types of gas anesthesia, so we can tailor the anesthesia to your pets’ needs. We also feature the newest anesthesia monitoring equipment and a heated surgery table.
Laser Therapy
Veterinary Medicine
Our doctors are committed to providing your pets with the very best preventive and wellness care available. They attend continuing education meeting regularly, stay up to date with the veterinary journals and consult on cases on a daily basis.
Veterinary Dentistry
By the age of 3, more than 80% of pets have some degree of dental disease. Scaling, cleaning and polishing of your pets teeth is done under general anesthesia and takes approximately 30 minutes in a basically healthy mouth. Antibiotics are administered before and continued after the procedure. Owners are encouraged to use preventative products at home, of which a wide number are available. We can help you develop a home care routine that you and your pet can enjoy. Consistent oral care will extend the life of your pet.
Drop Off Service
For your convenience, you may drop your pets off any weekday morning after 7:00 AM and pick up any time before closing. Your pet will be cared for throughout the day for routine care or urgent need exams. We only ask that you be available to us by phone throughout the day, if needed.
Grooming Services
Getting your pet professional groomed helps to prevent shedding, skin and paw conditions, and can catch other problems that go unnotied. A professional groom will keep your pet happy, healthy, and looking sharp!
Laboratory
Our state of the art in house laboratory from Idexx provides us with the ability to diagnose problems and initiate treatment on your pet much faster than ever before. Complete blood counts, blood chemistry profiles, thyroid testing and urinalysis can now be completed in less than 30 minutes. Routine heartworm/erlichea/lyme/anaplasma tests, feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus tests, stool samples, ear cytology, skin scrapings and giardia (a stool parasite) tests can all be completed in 10 minutes or less. With these capabilities, pre-anesthetic blood work screening is completed quickly and efficiently prior to any type of surgery.
Radiology
Eighty percent of all x-rays can be done in less than 20 minutes while you wait. Our high speed xray unit and automatic processor makes the procedure easy for staff and your pet. If the positioning needed or the pain level in your pet requires sedation, you can comfortably leave your pet in our staff’s hands and pick up 3-4 hours later.
Ultrasound Imaging
Mobile veterinary radiologists perform all our ultrasounds, by appointment at our facility. A preliminary report is available the same day. Drop off options are available for these appointments, for your convenience
Pain Management
Our entire staff is dedicated to controlling pain for your pet. All our surgical procedures include a pain management program. For your older or arthritic pets, we carry all of the highest quality NSAID’s for their comfort and we monitor each pet accordingly.

Our boarding area consists of separate indoor facilities for cats and dogs. Exotics and pocket pets are welcomed as well and are housed in quiet areas of the hospital.
House Calls
If circumstances require a doctor to come to your pet, please feel free to call for that service. If additional treatment or hospitalization is needed, the doctor can bring your pet back to the hospital.
Specialist Referrals
If you or our doctors feel your pet needs more advanced diagnostics or specialized treatment or surgery, be assured you will be referred to a specialist in the area. Your pet’s health is, as always, our number one concern.
Client Referrals
Recommendations of our hospital or doctors to your friends and family are the highest possible compliment to us. If a new client tells us you referred them, we will send you a $10 Elm Point gift certificate in appreciation.
Hospice Care
Pets requiring special care, fluid therapy or medications may be dropped off any morning and picked up before closing. Our technicians will cater to their every need during the day.
Exotics
Rabbits, ferrets, rats, mice, guinea pigs, gerbils and hamsters are all welcome here. Our doctors have experience treating all of the above. Although we recommend any sick bird seek the care of an avian specialist, we do provide beak and nail trims. We do not see reptiles.
